Glossary

The vocabulary of modern gym technology.

Quick, factual definitions of the concepts behind everything Vektor builds. Useful for managers, instructors and members.

Heart-rate monitoring in gyms
A system that captures each member's BPM in real time (via chest strap or smartwatch) and shows effort by target zone on a TV or app. It boosts engagement and lets the instructor calibrate intensity live.
Target-zone training
A training model based on keeping heart rate within a percentage band of the individual's max HR (e.g. 70-85% for the aerobic zone). Each zone trains a different metabolic system.
Fitness gamification
Application of game mechanics (points, leaderboards, badges, achievements) to gym workouts and classes to increase engagement, frequency and retention.
Group class with TV (real-time visualization)
A group-class format (spinning, HIIT, jump, CrossFit) in which a TV or projector shows live member metrics: HR, cadence, leaderboard, reps and remaining time. Creates healthy competition and visual focus on effort.
BPM (beats per minute)
Unit of measurement for heart rate. In healthy adults it ranges from 60-100 at rest and can reach 180-200 at high intensity.
Tabata, EMOM, AMRAP
High-intensity interval training protocols. Tabata: 8 rounds of 20s on / 10s off. EMOM (Every Minute on the Minute): exercises at the start of each minute. AMRAP (As Many Rounds As Possible): maximum rounds in a fixed time.
Cadence (RPM in indoor cycling)
Number of revolutions per minute that a member produces on the bike. In spinning, 60-90 RPM is typical for resistance and 90-110 RPM for speed.
Power (watts) on a bike
Absolute measurement of effort produced (cadence × resistance). The gold standard for measuring indoor cycling — independent of member weight or fitness level.
PR (Personal Record)
A member's best individual mark on a specific exercise (e.g. heaviest squat, fastest Fran). Hitting a PR is one of the main engagement drivers in functional training and CrossFit.
LGPD (Brazilian General Data Protection Law)
Brazilian law (Law nº 13.709/2018) regulating personal data processing. Any gym collecting member data (HR, photos, workout metrics) must comply — including explicit legal bases and the right to erasure.
